Mill Road Day Camp Gets Camplified!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Today we visited Mill Road Day Camp and were greeted by a handful of supervisors and counselors – and all were very helpful! Whether we were speaking with Steve about setting up our Cartoon Network station or meeting with counselors regarding the Scholastic books, each staff member involved in the Mill Road Day Camp was positive and awesome. I think they were as excited as we were about the books and activities!

We also worked with MTV’s Rockband today. As part of the Camplified crew I can tell you that the Rockband sponsorship has brought happiness and improved skill to campers across the Northeast. At this point, we have come across thousands of kids (and counselors!) that have not only taken part in Rockband, but DOMINATED! It’s been fun for us to watch the excitement, but not nearly as much fun as the kids are having!

The girls rock out to Rockband!

We also handed out Scholastic books today – rather than giving them to the kids directly we passed them on through their counselors. The idea was that the counselors would hand-pick the books for their cabins (group of campers) and distribute them later today. We have come across so many teachers that spend their summers with camps – and you have to see their faces light up when we tell them about Scholastic’s participation. Even the counselors get excited as they’re reminded about the Scholastic books fairs they frequented as kids. I feel very fortunate to be involved in a tour that partners with such a great company.

We also highlighted FusionFall with some Cartoon Network clips over at the laptop station. We introduced FusionFall to kids of all ages (and some even taught us some tricks they learned when playing the game at home!). There can be a bit of a lag with the internet connection that prevents the kids from sitting still and playing long games, but that just gives more kids the chance to play! Our FusionFall girl (her name is Lisa – she rules!) is such a pro at the game, the kids follow her around the station looking for tips.

Finally Yu-Gi-Oh! was set up across the theatre. The kids swarmed the tables – looking to our Yu-Gi-Oh! experts for advice and some tricks. Luckily, our pros are ready for anything, so the kids were occupied and really excited. Usually the game is a pretty popular but today was crazy – kids everywheeeeeere!

Today’s concert features the Jersey Kidz and Duke Squad – both great rock bands perfect for the crowds at Mill Day camp. Duke Squad hit the stage first and got the kids up and dancing. There were followed by Jersey Kidz who brought the house down! It was a hometown crowd for Jersey Kidz and some band members even knew some campers from their non-Camplified world – they were so excited to see each other and watch (or, for the musicians, play!) the show. Forgive the expression, but there were happy campers everywhere!

At the end of the day, there was a quick autograph session with some very excited kids and then we were off to the next camp. We’re lucky to be having so many positive experiences with campgrounds, camp directors, and camp reactions – and Mill Road Day Camp was no exception! See you guys at Camp Hilltop!

Camp Starlight welcomes Camplified!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Today, Camplified was welcomed onto the campus of Camp Starlight, in Starlight, PA. We hung out with the campers doing the activities (today it was MTV’s ROCKBAND, Cartoon Network was set up on the laptops, Yu-Gi-Oh! was in a giant theatre overlooking the lake, and Tonya Hurley (“Ghost Girl” Author) was holding a signing in the woods with the campers – it was a pretty jam-packed visit!

MTV’s Rockband entertained boys and girls alike with favorites like “Eye Of The Tiger” and “Living on A Prayer.” Campers, counselors and musicians all took part today. Rockband usually brings people together because of the multiple skill sets – you can play with the most skilled Rockband fan, but at your own level! So when the little kids play along the teenagers, everyone’s happy. It’s a bonding experience for the campers!

Tonya participated in a signing in the woods with the campers – the girls were pumped! “Ghost Girl” has been such a great addition to Camplified this year. Tonya is awesome and the book is a big hit. She sits and talks with the girls while they get to walk away with some new reading materials for their summer – and she has all of this beautiful and creative merch! The Camplified crew really looks forward to seeing her on the days when she has joined the tour.

Cartoon Network was set up down the way and campers took a break from the heat outside to watch some clips and learn about FusionFall. There was some mixed feedback on the game with some loving the diversity and multiple options while playing while others were upset with the load/response time. Overall, it was a pretty successful activity.

Yu-Gi-Oh! was a huge hit! The experts brought in campers of all shapes and sizes and they got right to work! Dozens and dozens of kids made their way through the theatre and had the chance to sit down and play the game and also watch a quick tutorial to help them as they walked through the learning process.

The campers seemed to really enjoy themselves during the activities, so the bar for the evening concert was set pretty high. As the kids poured into the concert area, we knew we had a heck of a night in store. Luckily, we had some incredible bands on the bill – like Jersey Kidz, Duke Squad aaaannndddd Lansdowne.

It was a great afternoon and evening in Starlight, PA. Thanks for inviting us over Camp Starlight!

NJY Camp in Midford, PA welcomes Camplified

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Today Camplified visited the NJY Camp in Milford, PA.  We were welcomed into this massive camp – and their beautiful grounds – just after lunch.  Right away the campers were hard at work at mastering Rockband, visiting with our Yu-Gi-Oh! experts, playing with the Cartoon Network goodies and collecting their free Scholastic books.  It got pretty rowdy pretty quickly!

Rockband was set up in the gazebos in the park – which was great because although there were some dark rain clouds, the kids could play as long and as loud as they wanted.  This was one of the first camps with a lot of co-ed bands – the campers were so excited about playing that they didn’t want to pass up their turns to play in a band with only their friends – everyone jumped right in!

Down the trail Yu-Gi-Oh! and Cartoon Network were set up in the camp’s theatre.  At the Cartoon Network station the campers were able to play with the CN online game FusionFall.  There were a group of girls that were really excited – they mentioned that they play on onemorelevel.com and games123.com so the format of FusionFall was immediately appealing to them.  As they played the game, they got more and more into the tasks and levels that they wanted to conquer.  CN has kindly given us some postcards for the interested campers to redeem at CartoonNetwork.com and these girls were pumped when they received them!  A few more happy faces courtesy of FusionFall ……sometimes our jobs are so easy!

Also in the theatre, our Yu-Gi-Oh! experts were set up teaching kids about the games and even sharing some tips for the experienced campers.  There was a small crew of guys that brought their own cards and told us about the tournaments that they hold in their bunks – it was awesome!

Next it was down to the amphitheater for the concert – tonight the NJY Camp hosted Kicking Daisies, the Duke Squad, and 2am Club.  It was a gorgeous night and the sound guys had arranged the system beautifully – it was quite the scene for the NJY Camp.  The bands were all in great moods and the crowd was really excited about each set – the mood was electric!

All in all, NJY Camp treated us incredibly well, and Camplified brought the rock, the free books (which were a huuuuge hit!), the Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cartoon Network – and so much more!  It was a very happy day in Milford, PA – I’m so happy to be a part of Camplified, who helped to make it happen!

Cartoon Network takes over NJY!!!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Even though today was hot and muggy, campers were overwhelmed
with joy that Cartoon Network was at their camp today. Campers were
eager to learn about the new and upcoming things coming from Cartoon Network.

Kids watched the Jedi music video with smiles on their faces. A great deal of laughter comes from the campers as they watch that clip!

While some kids were watching Cartoon Network previews, other kids were interested in learning about FusionFall and the fun features that the game has to offer. Campers took to the game instantly by learning the ways of the keyboard and shooting keys in order to complete the missions and defeat the evil side of the Cartoon
Network characters.

The musicians on this tour have become excited about learning and playing this game, also since many of them are always on the road touring and looking for fun ways to pass the time!

Duke Squad, along with Michael and Marisa, will be giving us exclusive
interviews about their take on the game.

So stay tuned for more!!!

We Love Cartoon Network

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Throughout the first two weeks of our Camplified Tour ’09, we have seen so much love for our sponsor Cartoon Network. Kids have shown overwhelming enthusiasm for the “Total Drama Action” preview, plus very positive reactions to The Jedi promo and Andrew W.K music videos – aaaaaand (just in case that wasn’t enough for you!) the Cartoon Network online video game FusionFall has been entertaining tons of campers.

We’ve received very strong positive reactions from campers about the red kickballs provided by Cartoon Network….

Camplified Tour 2009

….and, of course, many of  them started playing catch and tag and anything they could to utilize the CN kickballs!

As we were approached by campers throughout the camp, we were also able to document a small portion of the feedback we received about Cartoon Network.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvA5ow7nUYM]
At every camp we visited, we had campers who wanted to show their appreciation for Cartoon Network
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwV55ukdYjI]

The great comments and cheers for CN do not stop there!  FusionFall – the online video game found on Cartoon Network’s website – is becoming a super popular video game to play online this summer. The positive reactions from the campers have been overwhelming – and the word spreads throughout the camps! Campers come to participate in the CN activity with an expectation of fun – and FusionFall doesn’t disappoint. The campers can’t stop talking to us about the exciting game features and the anticipation of getting home to download the bubblehead for their individual avatars.

Stay tuned as we’re also gearing up for an exclusive interview with musicians Michael and Marisa – a group that we have on tour with us. They’ve been pretty active with the kids in the Cartoon Network sponsorship.

It’s only been a few weeks and we’ve already watched countless children get excited about the various goodies that CN has provided for them. I’m sure the next few weeks are going to be just as special!

Belvoir Terrace welcomes the rawwwwkkkk!

Monday, July 27th, 2009

The girls at the Belvoir Terrace (a fine arts camp) invited Camplified onto their campus in Lenox, MA.  And in turn, we thanked them with some quality rock in the form of CT’s Kicking Daisies and Montreal’s Duke Squad.  PLUS, we surprised them with some Cartoon Netwoork kickballs and some amazing books from Scholastic!

Belvoir Terrace set us up in their amazing theatre – between the drum risers, the stationary seats, the huge backdrop and the full in-house lighting  – the space was gorgeous!  The bands came in and set up with quick soundchecks, and then it was time for the show to begin!

Duke Squad started out the evening with some amazing Canadian-pop….the girls loved every second of it.  Starting from the first few chords of the first song, the place was wild.

Kicking Daises took the stage and kept the excitement going.  The girls in KD added some great girl-power to the evening of boy-musician-heavy rock.

After the show the campers visited with the musicians – and got some great goodies from Scholastic!

Overall, it was such a treat to come into Belvoir Terrace and experience some fantastic music with the campers.  Our time together seemed to fly by, but that’s because everyone had such a good time.  It was another great Camplified day!

Greetings From The Tour Manager

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

What an amazing 2 weeks it’s been!!
I wish I was able to update more often, as my crew doesn’t always get the direct positive feedback from Camp Directors, but between advancing shows and managing crew and bands/artists my time is completely spent.
So far we have had nothing but great responses from all of the camps. The concept of this tour is so amazing, the compliments I receive on a daily basis blow me away. The only thing I can do is give credit where it’s due, and everyone that gives compliments hears how amazing Aimee is.

I couldn’t ask for a better crew, after our first night staying in a hotel together I was positive this was going to be a great summer. When our Yu-Gi-Oh crew joined us we were all nervous about adding 3 more personalities to the group. We were so nervous that unbeknownst to us it actually showed a bit when we first met. I had to FORCE everyone to join in on an ice breaker, two truths and a lie. Although it was awkward at first it helped to show everyone that I was bound and determined to make everyone comfortable with each other. Our sound crew boys were able to join in, which certainly helped turn the night into great fun! It hasn’t taken us long to become a big happy tour family. With 12 different personalities (sound crew included) I expected to have problems within the crew. I’m dealing with real professionals though, I couldn’t ask for a better crew! (I tend to boast about them, but they deserve it!!)

Our activities this year have been going over SO well! Campers are excited to play Cartoon Network’s FusionFall on our HP Computers, SO interested in learning more about Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh, and most are already pros at MTV’s Rockband. The swag from Ian’s, CN, Little Brown Books, and Scholastic have been a HUGE hit with the kids.

I have had a blast working with all of the bands and artists so far. We have some really great talent touring with us. I look forward to our future dates.

JCC Camp at Medford brings out the welcome wagon – and Camplified rolls into town!

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

One of the best parts of the Camplified tour is the surprises that we bring in with us on show day.  When the dates are “advanced”  (that’s concert lingo for finalizing day-of-show details) the camp directors hear about all the activities and musicians we’ll be bringing to camp when their day comes.  No matter how clear we are in letting them know what we’re coming with, there are still so surprised.  As we set up the Rockband, Cartoon Network and Yu-Gi-Oh! activities yesterday, it was clear this was going to be one of those camps.  Everyone was ready to party!

The JCC Camp in Medford, NJ is one of those places that acts an oasis away from the rest of the world – even though it’s about 5 minutes off of a main road.  You pull into the grounds and you’re transported – there are paths and trails, buildings for theatrical productions and art classes, and even a hockey rink!  As our sound guys started transforming the hockey rink into a venue fit for the stars, the crew got busy with the activities in the mess hall.  In no time at all, the kids had discovered us and as the hall filled up – the excitement was electric!  The kids swarmed in and transformed into rockstars over at Rockband, the gaming kids headed over to Yu-Gi-Oh! – and were enthralled with our Yu-Gi-Oh! experts almost instantly.

YuGiYo expert Robert shows the kids how it's done. How it's done expertly, that is..

Yu-Gi-Oh! expert Robert shows the kids how it's done. How it's done expertly, that is..

On the other side of the hall, the Cartoon Network station seemed to be overflowing with excited campers.  The Cartoon Networks cartoon previews and videos were so popular, our crew member Lisa was literally running around keeping every last kid queued up for their own viewing.

Cartoon Network station was a hit!

Today’s event was unique as we had two different shows – a morning set with Alexa & Natalee Falk (also known as Faces Without Names), Michael & Marisa, and a few songs from BYS.

Michael and Marissa performed - here Michael rocks out!

The afternoon set featured Phil Benson and a few more songs from BYS.

Phil Bensen entertains the masses!

Phil Bensen entertains the masses!

When the second set was over, the rink was full of kids (both big and small!) clamoring for autographs from the musicians.  There were hundreds of really excited kids who couldn’t get enough of these guys – it was madness!

We ended the day with some more activities and the energy level never slowed down.  The kids and staff at the JCC camp sure gave us a run for our money today – at Camplified we’re pretty high energy and we can be pretty entertaining (we like to have a good time!).  But, today at JCC Camp in Medford we were the ones trying to keep up with the excitement of the staff and campers.  It was a great day!

Really looking forward to Belvoir Terrace on Sunday.  JCC Camp at Medford has set the bar pretty high, but I know the girls in Lenox, MA are going to be great!!

Taking Mid-Island Y By Storm!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

We’re almost two weeks into this tour now and we are still going strong.  Today we were at Mid-Island Y in Wheatley Heights, Long Island. The weather may have been dark and dreary, but the smiles, laughter and energy the children had made it feel like the sun was shining bright and strong.

Dancing in the rain!

Dancing in the rain!

Kids took an instant liking to one of our great sponsors this year, MTV Rockband. Rocking out to great legendary songs such as “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor and “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi! There were also quite a few modern songs like “Nine in the Afternoon” by Panic! at the Disco and “That’s What You Get” by Paramore that were a huge hit! But then the rain came, that by no means stopped our bands from taking the stage and rocking out.

Even the Mid-Island Y Counselors Rocked Out to Rockband!

Through the rain, the bands sang their hearts out and the kids danced both on and off the stage like there was no tomorrow.
