Camp Crew Blog: Zach Sang Gets Camplified

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Tour Manager Mike again, reporting straight from the road! The Camplified tour is moving right along with many special guests coming out to help pump up our campers. We were very excited to have Zach Sang of Goom Radio‘s Zang Radio come out for our show at JCC Camp Ruach in Bridgewater, NJ, this past week. Zach got the campers psyched and pumped up during the day’s Camplified activities — he came fully stocked with Goom Radio stickers and sign-ups for amazing free giveaways! He also raffled off Goom Radio T-shirts signed by some of today’s hottest celebrities such as  Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, Big Time Rush and Emily Osment, much to the campers’ delight. Zach helped emcee the show and even introduced Cody Simpson, who Zach just  happened to interview live the week before. It was a great night for the campers, to say the least! -Mike

Guest Blog: Six Volt Visits Camp Arrowhead

Friday, July 30th, 2010

When we found out that Six Volt’s guitarist, Granger, attended Camp Arrowhead in Marlboro, NJ, back in the day, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have him guest blog about his experience rocking out at camp last week. Six Volt played alongside Cody Simpson, Thomas Fiss and alternative/rock band Hollander, and the campers loved it! Check it out, through the eyes of Granger:

I remember when I was only six years old, playing and learning back at Camp Arrowhead. I never thought that I would return only to play a huge concert eight years later! As I roamed around the camp with the other SIX VOLT band members, I would point out the places where I used to hang out as a child. I felt so at home, but that was probably because I literally was but only 20 minutes away from where I grew up. Coming back to Camp Arrowhead was great — it sort of felt like I was simply jumping in my shed in the backyard and putting on a performance for the neighbors. I felt an immediate connection with the audience. It was like I already knew them, as if we were all fellow cabin mates. That’s the best thing about Camplified; I always feel like I’m just hanging out with a bunch of my friends. I love this tour in particular, because I can be just another member of the audience watching another artist like Cody Simpson or Thomas Fiss, cheering them on. It’s a great feeling in general because I know every other band feels the same way. You are just so connected and so at home that you don’t even worry about putting on a great show. You naturally will because you are so comfortable with the audience, it doesn’t matter. Everyone just wants to have fun! The campers and staff are so nice and incredible.

Camp Arrowhead, we will be back. Thank you for having us, it was awesome!!

Camp Crew Blog: Cirque du Soleil Gets Camplified!

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Photos courtesy of Greg Leddy.

Hi there! Tour Manager Mike here, reporting straight from the road. We are extremely excited to offer a new and exciting activity for the second half of the Camplified 2010 tour! On behalf of Madison Square Garden and Cirque du Soleil‘s hit Wintuk extravaganza, each of our remaining tour dates will feature a hula-hoop contest, complete with amazing prizes. The pre-show excitement at JCC Camp Ruach yesterday was off-the-charts as the campers walked in with their parents for the Camplified show! These lucky campers were the first to experience the fun of the blue and white signature hula hoops so generously given to us by Cirque du Soleil. Judged on creativity, time and overall skill, the grand-prize winner of the hula contest received  a set of four  tickets to the Wintuk show this fall at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The campers were most certainly competitive — Cody Simpson‘s younger brother, Tom, even got in on the fun! The contest runners up were given really cool Lamp Post flashlights — official Cirque du Soleil merchandise — which will come in handy for those camp overnights in the bunks. But don’t worry, if you’re not a camper and are unable to hit up one of the Camplified shows, we’ll be giving away some Wintuk tickets during an upcoming Freebie Friday contest on our Twitter. Follow us @Camplified to stay in the hoop… er, loop! -Mike

Camp Danbee Rocks Out At Camplified

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

As you know, Cody Simpson rocked it Camp Danbee last week! The same can most definitely be said for the rest of the day’s bands and activities at the all girls’ residential camp located in Hinsdale, MA, which consisted of Stardoll fun, activities and giveaways sponsored by Penguin Young Readers and Scholastic, a guitar clinic sponsored by Epiphone and so much more. Thomas Fiss and Highbench also joined Cody Simpson on stage, much to the girls’ delight!

Guest Blog: Author Jen Calonita

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Camplified 2010 sponsor Little, Brown Books brought Secrets of My Hollywood Life author Jen Calonita to select camps this summer as part of our 2010 tour. We got Jen to dish about all things summer camp right here on our Camplified blog!

God, I miss camp.

That was the first thought that entered my mind when I drove up to Ivy League Summer Camp for my first-ever Camplified experience. Camp was just how I remembered it — green and leafy, wet and wild (I was dying to take a dip in the pool) and hilarious. (The day I visited was pop culture day and the counselors all seemed to be dressed up as different versions of Lady Gaga.) Oh yeah, camp was also hot and sticky, but you know what? No one seemed to care. That’s the beauty about camp — your makeup has melted off hours ago, your hair is a giant puff ball, you usually have to wear a way-too-big camp tee that is totally not flattering, and yet everyone looks happy. I was that Friday and all I was just a guest! I’m making a few Camplified visits this summer to talk about being an author and to give away copies of my new book, REALITY CHECK. I also chatted with campers about the book I wrote about camp, Sleepaway Girls. See how influential being a camp counselor was for me when I was 17? I wrote a teen novel about it! My next Camplified visit is this August and I’m already dreaming of my day at camp. This time if the temperature is over 90 degrees, I’m bringing my swimsuit. –Jen

Camp Crew Blog: On The Road With Cody

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Hi guys!!! Camp Crew member Holly here again reporting straight from the Camplified van. When we’re on the road going from camp to camp, we always have THE BEST time rocking out to our favorite tunes. Last night, we blasted “iYiYi” by Cody Simpson, who has been on tour with us this week.

I was so excited to have him join the Camplified tour, because I just heard his new single on the radio earlier this month! I’ve had the privilege of announcing Cody on stage every night, and to watch all the campers’ faces — they scream so loud! I get blown away by how loud it gets, but I love it. Keep it coming! It’s also very cool to watch the campers singing along with him — “iYiYi” is so catchy that I find myself jamming out right along with them!

It was super exciting to see one of Cody’s first live shows EVER. Every day he gets more and more comfortable on stage, not to mention that he’s been coming up with some great dance moves. He’s even improved his autograph, now adding cute Xs and Os! I can’t wait to see what Cody does next.  I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

XOXO,
Holly

Speaking of… check out this sweet video of Cody dishing about one of the songs he’s performing on the Camplified Tour, courtesy of Popstar! Online!
