Bio: Aimee Berger, Founder of the Camplified Rock Concert and Branded Experience tour that has rocked and rolled through summer camps across the country the past eleven years, also serves as the Executive Brand Partnerships Director at Primary Wave Music. Her resources in  the entertainment, digital media, merchandising and advertising industries have provided her with access to creating platforms that drive innovative concepts and new sources of revenue into summer camps. She began her career as an entertainment attorney and then music manager but it was her many years at summer camp that led her to merging her true passions together and re-emerging in the camping industry not as a camper but as a professional maintaining her camper spirit.

Camplified Founder Dishes On Relationships Formed Through Our Organization

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Camplified founder Aimee Berger (second from right) hangs out with
DPS co-founder Chris Balogh and Frolic! play space founder Carey Balogh.

Eleven years ago, I embarked on creating a property called “Camplified,” which focuses on bringing emerging bands and artists on the cusp of taking big strides in their career into summer camps across the nation. This captive audience of campers was just the right forum to introduce new music to a viable market of teen tastemakers. Later, it would become a unique platform for brands to utilize this vehicle, as well. This was all part of the plan, and as a company, we set out to be present at camp conferences, industry executive offices and introductions to various brand managers. What I did not envision was the relationships in camping that would take place on a personal level and become part of my everyday life. I was not aware of the amount of time that camp directors, owners and other camp-related businesses devoted outside their day-to-day roles to their own companies to support various charities that were dedicated to bringing those children financially unable to go to camp to have the opportunity to do just that – attend camp. Organizations like SCOPE NY, Midwest and this year, Southeast as well as Morry’s Camp, have put in endless hours for which this write-up could not do justice to change the lives of young children who, without these organizations, would have most definitely turned down a different path. Many of those children have now become leaders in our community and are the first to acknowledge this is because of the commitment of SCOPE and Morry’s Camp. This year will mark the first time I have been given the privilege to join the dinner committee for SCOPE (event takes place April 17th, 2012) and appointed Entertainment Chair.  What exactly does that mean? Don’t worry, you are about to be hit up for donations, gift bag items, raffle prizes, purchasing tickets to the dinner and/or sponsoring because without YOU making a difference, others less fortunate than you do not always have a chance to embark on a path to advance themselves, get educated and develop the social skills that happen at summer camp. Get Hooked On New Bands With Emerge Music Group

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

We recently met up with Ira Miller, founder of Emerge Music Group, who just so happened to turn us on to Camplified 2011 act, The Empty Pockets. Through Emerge, Ira helps bring emerging, up-and-coming musicians and bands to the forefront.  “Being in an independent band can be very overwhelming and disheartening,” says Josh Solomon of The Empty Pockets. “Thank goodness for people like Ira Miller of Emerge Music Group and Aimee Berger of Camplified. When I discovered people like Ira and Aimee putting so much effort into exposing completely unknown music to fans, it was both an emotional boost and an extremely helpful marketing tool.  I’m so glad Ira reach out to us and eventually introduced us to the fine folks at Camplified.”

If you’re someone who is always looking for that next talented, under-the-radar band, you should definitely be following Emerge on Facebook. And if you’re looking to get discovered and build a fan following, check out Ira’s tips below in this exclusive Q&A!

How did you come up with the idea for Emerge Music Group?
For about as long as I can remember, I always enjoyed finding that great new band before anyone else. And once I had heard them, I wanted to let other people know how great they were. I’ve been doing that informally for years and years and people started to look to me to find out about good new bands. But what really got the Emerge Music Group started was a realization that there are so many great bands out there and they are eager for people to hear their music. I’ve been on street teams for a number of bands (Guster, Jump, Little Children and others) over the years and almost 10 years ago I started volunteering with Aware Records‘ Rep Program which was a great experience. I got to help promote John Mayer before anyone knew who he was, sold merchandise for a wide variety of Aware-related artists and even got to spend a night helping backstage with Mat Kearney and his crew when he was on tour with Sheryl Crow and John Mayer. Before I started Emerge, I had a small “operation” called Nonprofit Promotions, and the goal of that project was to help connect bands that were looking for exposure with nonprofit organizations that were looking for bands for events or free/promotional CDs to give out as door prizes, etc. I did that for several years and distributed over 10,000 CDs to nonprofit events all over the country. After a while it became too difficult to find appropriate CDs to send to nonprofit organizations, so I started creating and duplicating my own CDs at home (with permission from the artists). One thing led to another and ultimately I realized that with the takeover of digital music, it didn’t make any sense to focus on creating physical CDs. Ultimately I started Emerge Music Group to help the bands that were on those CDs get their name and music out to more people.  That was the summer of 2007, and it’s been going strong ever since! I started with a few friends and family in the group and now at any given time we have between 750 and 800 people in the group on Facebook! (more…)

11 Strangers Meet, Become a Family Through Camplified

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Eleven strangers in one van working together as a team. I wasn’t quit sure what to expect going into Camplified. I was excited to meet my crew members and share an adventure with them, but our experience ended up as more than just an adventure — it was an amazing learning experience. When I arrived to New York for the first time, I was amazed by the city! New York got nothing on Los Angeles, I thought. But I didn’t realized how lucky I was until I walked into the Primary Wave office and met some of my team members — Mike, Dre, Alex, Josh, Katie and wonderful Aimee Berger, the one woman who made this opportunity happen for all of us! Aimee gave us a tour through the Primary Wave office and discussed the great work PWMP participates in; it was then I realized how lucky I was to be apart of the Camplified crew. I felt as if this Camplified tour experience brought me one step closer to my dreams of working in the music and film industry. And I was right!

The first week of tour, we met up with Christy, Evelyn and Kris. We also stopped somewhere in Virginia at a Walmart and bought fireworks to shoot off for Katie’s birthday! We also went to Camp Highlander in North Carolina, in which I realized quickly was the camp I used to watch on a Disney TV show called Bug Juice! I had always wanted to go to this camp when I was younger, and now 10 years later, I was finally here. I was so excited! We started to adjust to sleeping in the van and working on a tiresome two hours-a-day sleeping schedule. However, during this time of lack of sleep, we were all getting to know one another, and it wasn’t long before we would eventually start to get on each others nerves haha. However, we all somehow adapted to one another and each others’ personalities. (more…)

Sweat, Laughs & Craziness (That’s Camplified For Ya!)

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Before I left on tour, I was joking that I was entering into an MTV reality show: 10 strangers in a van traveling cross-country, working a music festival along the way… sounds like a good pitch, right? Looking back, I sort of wish there had been a camera crew following us, because I’m not sure I can do the memory justice when I try to recount the sweat, the laughs and the craziness that went into this tour!

I’ve been up and down the east coast — from walking the Daytona beach boardwalk to visiting the shop from Cake Boss in Hoboken — our crew had a blast! I feel as though I really lucked out when it comes to the people I was working with. We all worked so hard — setting up activities, tearing ‘em down, unpacking and repacking the van in all kinds of weather. There were a lot late nights and early mornings, but it always felt worthwhile when you saw the way campers reacted to Camplified.

My primary job was running a design contest for DEOS headphones. Whether the kids were using the online design program or creating their headphones with colored pencils and paper, they always let their creativity shine. When they heard about the free pair of custom ear buds they could win, even the counselors wanted to participate! I also had these great colored silicone ear bud covers to give away, so I had the campers answering trivia questions or coming up with great DEOS cheers.

And then there were the music shows! There was such a talented assortment of artists, and an unstoppable production team behind them. There is nothing more exciting to me than a rock concert, and seeing one every night for six weeks was spectacular! Not to mention the fact that I’ve got some great new music in my iTunes. 2011 brought me the most interesting summer I’ve ever had, and I learned so much.  I don’t think I really understood what I had signed up for with Camplified, but I don’t regret a minute of how I spent my summer.
