Camp Crew Blog: Epiphone Guitar Clinics

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Photos courtesy of Greg Leddy.

Hey everyone! Tori, here. So towards the end of our summer 2010 tour, I got the chance to check out the guitar clinic, sponsored by Epiphone Guitars! It was so  awesome that the kids at the camp really got a chance to interact with the bands… and while learning how to play guitar! At each camp, groups of kids would get together for a guitar lesson which is instructed by one of the bands or musicians on tour. Each kid was able to learn a few chords on an acoustic guitar courtesy of Epiphone and jam away with some of the artists performing on tour, such as Josiah Rea, Rachel  Platten, Michael of Michael and Marisa, Highbench and more. Some of the kids even learned a few chords to the theme song of Camplified sponsor EdisonLearning titled, “The Power of You.” It was a great opportunity for the campers, and I hope it inspires kids to take up a musical instrument back home… maybe even start their own band. Who knows, perhaps they’ll be playing on the Camplified tour a few years from now! -Tori

Camp Crew Blog: On The Road With Thomas Fiss

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Camp Crew member Holly here reporting one last time from the road. *tear* Just wanted to write a short blog about our touring buddy — and one of my favorite artists on the tour — Thomas Fiss. Thomas was lucky enough to join us on every single tour date, and I’m so happy to have met him and have worked with him!

Not only is Thomas easy on the eyes *swoon* — but all his songs are rockin’ and have very catchy lyrics. Thomas even performed his own version of *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” a few times! The crowd explodes and campers (and myself) join in every time. My favorite original song by Thomas is called “Waiting.” It’s about a girl that has been hurt in a past relationship, and Thomas tells her that he would treat her better. Awww.

Also, a fun fact about Thomas that not everyone may know is that he can do the worm. One day while on tour, he stopped, laid down on the floor, and wiggled his way across the room! That takes talent right there. So if you’re lucky enough to see him in concert, ask him if he will do it for you and say Holly sent ya!

I’m looking forward to seeing what Thomas does in the near future. Hopefully he’ll continue dancing and singing. I also hope he ends up with the girl that he has been “Waiting” for! -Holly

Camp Crew Blog: Cartoon Network

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Camp Crew member Tori, here! Question for you — what do you get when you combine history, mystery and fun?! You get Cartoon Network‘s unbelievable new series Unnatural History! I’ve been lucky to take this new series all over New England and the Midwest to various summer camps during the Camplified 2010 tour. Lemme tell you, campers are going crazy for this new show, which is about a young world traveler with unbelievable skills who comes to America to navigate his way through high school. If you have ever tried to get the undivided attention of 50 to 100 young campers… you know how hard it can be. Yet Unnatural History is able to captivate these campers to no end. The show has made the campers inquisitive about nature, while having them laughing at the edge of their seats — they always leave wanting more! After the campers view the UN episode, they anxiously anticipate the iSpy questions where they can win awesome prizes and receive free giveaways, courtesy of Cartoon Network. These include fake CN tattoos and cool Unnatural History compasses, which obviously come in handy when navigating your way through the woods at camp! You can catch new episodes of Unnatural History on Tuesday nights at 8pm EST on Cartoon Network. -Tori

Camp Crew Blog: On The Road With Cody

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Hi guys!!! Camp Crew member Holly here again reporting straight from the Camplified van. When we’re on the road going from camp to camp, we always have THE BEST time rocking out to our favorite tunes. Last night, we blasted “iYiYi” by Cody Simpson, who has been on tour with us this week.

I was so excited to have him join the Camplified tour, because I just heard his new single on the radio earlier this month! I’ve had the privilege of announcing Cody on stage every night, and to watch all the campers’ faces — they scream so loud! I get blown away by how loud it gets, but I love it. Keep it coming! It’s also very cool to watch the campers singing along with him — “iYiYi” is so catchy that I find myself jamming out right along with them!

It was super exciting to see one of Cody’s first live shows EVER. Every day he gets more and more comfortable on stage, not to mention that he’s been coming up with some great dance moves. He’s even improved his autograph, now adding cute Xs and Os! I can’t wait to see what Cody does next.  I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

XOXO,
Holly

Camp Crew Blog: Hello From The Road!!!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Hello from the road!!! My name is Holly, and I’m part of the road crew that is bringing Camplified to a camp near you. So far, we have visited seven camps, and every day is so much fun! Not only does the crew help out with the music, setting up the bands and such, but we also bring the activities to life that the campers participate in. Of course, we also make time to jump in the lake and bounce on the trampoline with artists like Josiah Rea.

I spend much of my time helping out at the Penguin Books tent, and my favorite activity to do there is make luggage tags. I’ve been teaching the campers to make luggage tags out of duct tape and everyday the kids get more and more creative! I have seen tags in the shape of guitars, puppies, names, boxes and one girl even made an actual purse. The idea for the luggage tags was inspired by the Penguin book by Robin Palmer, Yours Truly, Lucy B. Parker: Girl Vs. Superstar, because, just like campers, Lucy uses her backpacks and suitcases to travel. Luggage tags not only decorate your bag, but they could save you from losing your bag forever!

I am so excited to see what ideas the campers come up with next. I’ll have to keep you posted… for now, check out some of my personal photos from the tour, below. -Holly
