Guest Blog 2: Kristina Lachaga

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Kristina Lachaga has been rockin’ Camplified this season with her catchy tunes and bubbly personality. You may remember when The Girl With The Big Pink Heart wrote her first guest blog. Well Kristina is now a Camplified veteran and wanted to share her experience on the coolest concert around! Check out her second guest blog below:

Hi Campers!

Kristina Lachaga (a.k.a. The Girl With The Big Pink Heart) here again updating you on #TourLife! Hope you’re having a fabulous summer at camp – I know Camplified is the highlight of my summer for sure! From long hours in the car to late nights and early mornings being on the road is tough, but absolutely worth it because we, as artists, get to create an amazing concert just for you!

Here’s a look at my typical day on the Camplified Tour!

1. Wake up extra early! And don’t oversleep like some people…not saying any names…Brad and Chris…haha. We stayed up late using bicycles pumps to blow up inflatable microphones in our hotel’s lobby. We got some strange looks from people checking in……I wonder why?!?

2. Arrive at Camp for Soundcheck! We got there extra early.

3. Time to sign posters! We pre-signed approximately 600 posters getting ready for one of our shows. (Brad likes to draw snails on his posters –look for one of his masterpieces on yours!)

4. Activities!!! It’s like a Camplified Carnival (: I had a blast with the Cartoon Network games, teaching some guitar at the Daisy Rock Guitar Center (and doing some sing alongs, too!), rockin’ out with the Roland keytar and vocal processor, taking green screen photos with fans, and doing interviews with Fanlala.com and Justine Magazine! I got a little sunburned……ummm, pass the sunscreen, please!

5. Hang out backstage! Chris, Brad, Dan and I (with special guest Karlee) jammed while waiting to kick off the concert. I also had so so so much fun hanging out with Blush (Check them out on Twitter HERE) –they are so funny and talented!

6. Showtime! The feeling I get when I am on stage performing is so surreal. I can’t even describe it, but it is like a dream come true and I love it. It was great to be able to watch my fellow Camplified artists, too –everyone is truly amazing!

7. Meet and Greet!! (a.k.a. my second favorite part to the actual concert!) I had an AMAZING time performing for and meeting my fans – you guys are the reason I do this! I love you! Here’s some fan photos!

8. That’s a Wrap! I filmed a quick video with Blush before heading out – Check it out HERE

9. Repeat steps 1-8. (:

I’ve had such a blast on the Camplified Tour. It means so much to me when I see you in the audience with a smile on your face –that’s when I know I’m doing my job(: See you on tour!

xoxo,

Kristina Lachaga

NEW YORK (June 19, 2012) – Entering its second decade as the definitive VIP concert experience for teens and tweens, the 2012 CAMPLIFIED TOUR is “bigger and better” in its 11th season as it sets to rock more than 30,000 kids in 38 summer camps across the United States by creating a unique and exclusive one-day music festival environment at each stop.

Embraced by Billboard as “Lollapalooza for the Justin Bieber-loving crowd” and declared “a highly anticipated event” by the New York Times, CAMPLIFIED (www.CAMPLIFIED.com) will bring over 20 talented and emerging artists to campers between the ages of 6 and 17, many of whom will be experiencing their first-ever rock concert – in style. CAMPLIFIED creates a daylong interactive fantasy experience that adds a heightened dimension to the traditions that have made summer camp a rite of passage for generations. The six-week tour kicks off July 2 in Ortonville, MI and continues to the East Coast and into the South and Midwest – 11 states for the 11th year!

Teen country star Payton Rae tops the list of touring artists whose participation in a 90-minute concert at each camp is just part of their daily CAMPLIFIED commitment.  True to the All Access passes every camper receives, artists not only perform in a 90-minute concert at each camp, but also join campers off stage in sponsor-branded activities throughout the day. The day culminates in post-concert meet-n-greets for up-close-and-personal autograph and picture-taking sessions with artists.

“Being on the CAMPLIFIED Tour is truly an honor for me,” says Rae, whose two CMA Music Festival performances combine with her 6.6 million YouTube views, 140,000 Twitter followers and 68,000 Facebook fans. “When I was younger, I remember going to summer camp and listening to some amazing music. It was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had. I look forward to making special memories with everyone I perform for this summer, as well!”

Other artists to watch along CAMPLIFIED 2012 include Alabama Capital, The Strange Familiar, Ariana and the Rose, Rebecca McGown, and Brandon and Savannah, who will be shooting a TV show along the route.

Trevor Jackson, co-star of the new #1 Disney Channel movie, Let It Shine, will be making a special guest appearance for one day only July 10 at Camp Rolling River in East Rockaway, NY. And Blush, the #1 international girl group sensation, is ticketed to arrive from the Far East for five special guest visits: July 25-28 and Aug. 3 at camps in New Jersey, Maine, and Long Island. More special events along the tour will be announced soon.  As an interactive music event, CAMPLIFIED creates a lifelong bond between artists and fans through personal connection, featuring artists on the cusp of stardom. Most recently, CAMPLIFIED helped launch the career of teen pop superstar Cody Simpson.

CAMPLIFIED will have more activities, giveaways, and prizes than ever before. For the second year in a row, campers interested in journalism can be a “Camper Guest Reporter” for the day for popular teen magazine Justine. The CAMPLIFIED crew sets up a “media center” where each camper reporter interviews other campers, artists, counselors and brand representatives, and the content is exclusively posted on Justine’s website for readers to follow. As an added bonus, “Green Screen Photo Booths” allow campers to be photographed in fun, super-imposed scenes they can share with friends and family. All campers also receive an All Access photo pass with codes for music downloads from each artist on the tour.

Sponsoring this year’s CAMPLIFIED tour include Cartoon Network, promoting their Ben10 show with a slip ‘n’ slide human bowling ball; and The Amazing World Of Gumball with create-your-own bandanas. Music gear sponsor Roland will tap artists for world premiere demonstrations of two new products, a portable synthesizer and a compact vocal processor. Similarly, CAMPLIFIED will host a guitar clinic taught by the artist, and The Riff competition, our guitar-centric “riff” on the hit TV series The Voice.

The CAMPLIFIED 2012 Tour is the gateway to a new dimension that will rewrite the traditional boundaries in which CAMPLIFIED has already rocked a generation of campers in its first decade.

CAMPLIFIED always has been known as a cross-country rock concert tour with branded experiences for campers and deep relationships we establish with the camp directors,” says music executive Aimee Berger, CAMPLIFIED’s founder. “But as we move into our second decade, we’ll be answering the demand to extend that community to the internet in an exclusive, cutting-edge new platform we’ll be introducing in the fall with an array of tech goodies such as social media mechanics and one of the most important new trends in technology, gamification. We’ll have lots more to say as the summer progresses.”

CAMPLIFIED is a win-win experience for everyone – campers, artists and brand sponsors. Campers get a celebrity, music and branded VIP live concert experience, complete with giveaways; emerging bands/artists get to go on tour, perform on a festival stage and build their fan-base; and sponsors get to directly connect their brand with a concentrated audience of teens, tweens, and single-digit-aged kids as well – all tough-to-reach groups during the summer.

“The value added bonus that CAMPLIFIED brings to our camp is twofold,” says Lori Waldman, director of Camp Blue Ridge in Mountain City, GA. “Although we’re a traditional sleep away camp, CAMPLIFIED keeps us current. We blog and Facebook about it all year, so the kids look forward to new artists and brands at camp which their friends at other camps can’t talk about!”

In a music industry constantly trying to find creative ways to market new artists, CAMPLIFIED is a one-of-a-kind tour that fills 135 performance slots and gives emerging artists an unbelievable, cost-effective platform to directly connect with their target audiences, while further developing themselves into true rock stars.

Developed by Aimee Berger and powered by Primary Wave Music (www.PrimaryWaveMusic.com), one of the largest music publishing, marketing and talent management companies in the US, CAMPLIFIED (www.CAMPLIFIED.com) is a summer concert tour unlike any other.

Industry Profile: Camplified Takes the Arena Show to Summer Camp

It is no secret that tweens are a coveted demographic. The question for music industry professionals, though, is how to tap into this alternately fickle and fiercely loyal group of trendsetting media consumers.

Enter Camplified, a summer concert festival that stops at more than 60 summer camps across the United States, and introduces 135 up-and-coming, family friendly rock musicians to more than 30,000 teens and tweens every year.

Camplified, which is celebrating its tenth summer on the road, is the brainchild of music industry executive Aimee Berger. One night in 2000, Berger — an artist, songwriter, producer and manager — had grown frustrated with the economic woes facing a rapidly changing music industry, and the lack of money available for artist
development.

In planning her next career steps, Berger recalled her happiest childhood memories, when she attended summer camp every year. At Kutsher’s Sports Academy, athletes were frequently brought in to interact with campers.

“I thought, why can’t the same apply to artists? We could bring in emerging artists [to summer camps] who are on the cusp of something happening.” The next year, she founded Camplified.

Here’s how it works: Some camps make their kids very aware that Camplified is coming. Others keep it a secret and surprise the campers. Either way, when tour vehicles arrive on camp property and a production crew pitches tents that serve as activity stations (arts and crafts, obstacle courses, etc.), campers get energized. Each stop on the Camplified tour features performances by three or four musicians, and throughout the day, the performers take part in activities alongside the campers. The day ends with a 90-minute concert, followed by a meet and greet with the performers, who sign official Camplified posters.

It’s like Lollapolooza for the Justin Bieber-loving crowd.

Most of the performers are relative unknowns – young singers and songwriters from all musical genres trying to catch a big break. Last year’s tour introduced campers to then-unknown Cody Simpson, a 14-year-old Australian singer-songwriter who is now signed with Atlantic Records. This year’s tour features McKenzie Comer, Jenny and Ashley, Brkn Rbtz, and a singer-songwriter named Jessarae, whose star, Berger says, is on the rise.

Camplified, which partnered with the music publishing, marketing and management company Primary Wave Music in 2008, continues to expand — and turn a profit — thanks in part to a handful of tween-oriented brands (such as Cartoon Network, Scholastic and Justine magazine) who have jumped on-board as sponsors.

“The beginning of the tour was focused just on artists benefiting from this vehicle,” Berger says. “But very quickly, the brands started to seek the same thing. They said, we have to reach this audience. Here is a finite setting — a captive audience of kids.”

According to Berger, summer camp is a multi-billion dollar industry, and until Camplified, the music industry ignored its potential.

“You have, in some instances, affluent kids going to camp who are tastemakers,” she says. “Those kids are in a position to early adopt, go back to their hometowns in all different areas…and tell all their friends about their summer,” including the artists they saw at Camplified. Capitalizing on tweens’ proficient use of social media,
Camplified provides campers with “all-access passes” and encourages them to share pictures of the festivities online.

Unlike other major summer concert tours, which rely on ticket sales to stay afloat, Camplified does not even sell tickets, and focuses instead on assembling a diverse group of performers, without worrying about who can or can’t fill stadium seats. Camplified also eschews most traditional advertising (radio, TV, print) and instead
markets directly to the campers.

“Our job is to bring new artists into camp and enlighten the kids,” Berger says. “Music history has to pay attention. I’ve tapped into a marketplace where we keep seeing artists pop from this.”
